What is a “feed”?
  • Are all ads free to post?
  • Yes
  • How often can my ad be renewed and how many times can I renew it?
  • An ad can be renewed every 2 calendar days. An ad can be renewed up to 5 times. This is true for a free ad or a paid ad. Ads are considered “Inactive” when an ad has not been renewed for more than after 14 days. Inactive ads will not appear in user’s search results after this time. So, if you wanted your ad to appear for an extended amount of time, you could renew your ad every 10 days and it be Active for over 60 days. As a courtesy, we ask that users remove their ads if the listing is no longer available instead of waiting for the listing to be considered “Inactive”.
  • My inventory management system can export my inventory to CSV file. Does your site accept these types of files?
  • We do support this type of functionality and at no cost. Please contact us at data-feed@on-the-list.com for additional details.
  • What are the benefits of having an ad “Featured” or "Elite"?
  • A "Featured" ad is "Featured" for up to 14 days. And "Elite" ad is "Elite" for 14 days and is "Featured" for the remaining life of the listing. Ending an ad removes all "Elite" and "Featured" status from the ad immediately.

"Featured" and "Elite" ads are randomly displayed on the Home Page that are posted within the same Search Area the page defaults to. The Search Results page will first display an "Elite" ad in the "Elite Listing Spotlight" if any "Elite" ads are returned in your Search Results. Then, up to 4 "Featured" ads are displayed in the "Featured Listings" section if any "Featured" or "Elite" ads are returned in your Search Results.

Finally, listings are grouped and sorted matching the Sort Order selected by the user. All matching "Elite" ads are displayed first, then all matching "Featured" ads are displayed. Finally all other ads are displayed. Additionally, "Elite" and "Featured" ads are displayed in other related areas of the website as well.
When you go to “My Account” and select “My Classifieds” and locate your featured ad, you can see how many times your ad has been clicked on from a “Featured” area by hovering over the green ‘F’ icon. For example, let’s say your ad has been “Viewed” a total of 225 times and you see that your ad has been clicked on 75 times from “Featured” areas. This means that 75 times people found your ad because if was featured. The other 150 viewseither came from users clicking your ad from their Search Results or because they found the ad when they were viewing all your ads.
  • Why do I have to log in before I can contact a user?
  • Requiring users to log in is an extra security measure taken to try and reduce scams as well as spam for the users who post ads. It also allows the contacting user to use the site’s messaging system to contact the user who posted the ad. When contacting a user, you have the option to include the e-mail address your account is registered under if you prefer to have correspondence outside of this site’s messaging system. And, if a user does include their phone number as part of the ad, they can rest assured that only users logged into this site can view that information.
  • Can I change my settings and profile pic after creating an account? Where can I see all ads I have posted?
  • When logged in, you can click the “My Account” link that appears next to your User Name at the top of the page. Along with being able to edit your settings under “Edit Profile” and being able to change your profile pic under “Edit your Profile Pic”, you can click on “My Classifieds” to see all currently active ads as well as any “Inactive” ads from the past 30 days. An ad becomes “Inactive” after they expire or if you end the listing early.
For “Active” listings, you can find a variety of details. You can see when you ad was posted, when it was last renewed, the title of each ad and how many time each ad has been viewed. If you selected to “Auto-renew” your ad when you originally posted it, you can see the frequency that the ad will be automatically renewed. If you selected to “Feature” your ad, you can hover over the green ‘F’ and see how many times you ad has been clicked on from a “Featured” area. The number of times “Viewed” is a total of times your ad has been clicked on in “Featured” areas as well as non-Featured areas. So, for example, your ad may have been viewed a total of ‘75’ times. And, that same ad may show it has been “Clicked on 10 times from ‘Featured Ad’ areas”. In this example, your ad has been viewed a total of 75 times and 10 of those times occurred because someone clicked your ad in a “Featured” area of the site.
Users have a few actions they can perform on “Active” ads. You will see the “Renew” icon if it is been more than 2 calendar days from the date the ad was posted or since the ad was last renewed. You will also see icons to “Edit” or “Delete” your ad. Please note that not all fields on your ad can be edited. If you need to change non-editable fields, you will be better served by deleting your ad and posting it again as a new ad. When you “Delete” an ad, it will no longer be viewable to other users and the ad will change to being “Inactive”. For “Inactive” listings, the only action that is available is the ability to “Repost” your ad.
  • Why can’t I use Special Characters when entering Search Terms?
  • Due to the way we constructed our search queries, we do not accept anything but Letters and Numbers in search fields. One workaround would be using a more generic search on the “Advanced Search” page and entering terms that you would like to exclude from your search so you may narrow down your results. Our hope is that a vast majority of searches will not be hindered by the restriction of Special Characters when searching.
  • Why can’t I use HTML code or include website addresses in my ad?
  • The expectation is that users all create ads using the functionality we already offer. Please let the content of your ad be what stirs up interest in what you are posting instead of depending on a variety of font sizes or colors. And, the intent of the site is to generate traffic on our site for the benefit of our users. So, efforts are made to keep any links from appearing anywhere on our site. Changes will be made as needed to keep this requirement strictly enforced.
  • Why do I get a pop-up that says “This site is intended to be a safe as well as courteous marketplace”. Why?
  • Attempts are made to make this a “courteous marketplace” for all users and we do monitor for terms that we consider “vulgar” or “inappropriate”. You could also see this pop-up if you are trying to use some HTML tags to try and imbed a link of modify text within your ad. If you feel the message is shown in error, please contact us with the exact text that was entered that caused the message to appear. Users who try to manipulate the system and violate the “Terms of Use” by posting inappropriate or illegal content will have their accounts permanently deactivated.
  • Should I accept PayPal, Cashier’s Checks, Money Orders, Western Union or Moneygram when someone asks me to ship an item to them?
  • Never consider accepting these types of offers and never ship an item. We don’t even recommend responding back to this type of offer. There are many scams that utilize these types of payment methods along with other types of wiring services. Any communication that offers/mentions any of these should be ignored. Even though users can search within hundreds of miles of a given location, meeting face-to-face is the best way to avoid these types of scam-attempts. If someone refuses to meet face-to-face or keeps presenting reasons why they cannot (out of state, out of country, wants to ship to friend/family member), recognize that you are most likely communicating with a scammer. “On the List” is not involved in any transactions/payments between any of its users. Please review the “Terms of Use” for additional details.
  • If I send a message to a user, will they see my e-mail address?
  • Only if you select to “Include my e-mail address with this message” when sending a message. We take privacy very seriously and the receiving user will only see your User Name when showing who the message is from if you do not select to automatically include your e-mail address. We highly discourage sharing any personal informationthat allows other user to contact you outside of this site’s messaging system. This would include users asking for your telephone numberor e-mail addresses sincea majority of needed communication can be handled anonymously using our messaging system. Likewise, be wary of users who utilize the site’s messaging system to contact you and then immediately ask you to contact them a different way (e.g.: texting or e-mailing them directly). Please review "Should I accept PayPal, Cashier’s Checks, Money Orders, Western Union or Moneygram when someone asks me to ship an item to them?" for additional precautions all users should take.
  • Can I exclude certain users’ ads from my Search Results?
  • Yes. When viewing Search Results, every ad will have a “Hide” link available. When selected, you will be prompted to confirm that if you want to “Permanently hide this user from all search results”. As the statement indicates, this is permanent and cannot be reversed. So, only select ‘Yes’ if you are confident you never wants ads from that particular user to never appear in your Search Results again if you are logged in. This also means you will also not see any “Featured Ads” that user posts when you are logged in. The Search Results screen will refresh if you select “Yes” This will make it so your current search will not include any ads from that user.
  • How does the “Add To Favorites” option work?
  • Every ad that you view that is not currently saved under “Favorites” will show an “Add To Favorites” link. If you click this link or if you already have the current ad saved under “Favorites”, the link will then show “Remove From Favorites”. You can click the “Favorites” link at the top of the page to see all ads you have currently flagged this way. Your “Favorites” are associated with your account, so regardless of what computer/device you log in with, you will always be able to see your saved “Favorites”. You may only view ads that show an “Ad Status” of “Active”. This helps protect the privacy of the user who posted the ad originally and keeps the user from receiving messages about an ad they no longer have posted. In some cases, even if an ad is “Ended”, you can click the User Name or Profile pic and see what other ads they currently have posted.
You can remove ads from your “Favorites” page in a variety of ways. When viewing an ad you have saved in “Favorites”, you can click the “Remove From Favorites” link. Or, from the “Favorites” page, you can click the “Remove” link found on any of the saved ads. Also on the “Favorites” page, you can click the “Clear all my Favorite Ads” link and that will remove all ads found on this page.
Another feature on the “Favorites” page is you have the ability to set your view to be relative to “Location” or “Distance”. If you are viewing “Location”, you will see the value that the user provided for the location the ad is posted in. If you are viewing “Distance”, you will be prompted to enter a ZIP code you are located in. With this information provided, you can see the approximate distance from your ZIP code and the ZIP code that user provided for the area the ad is posted in.
  • Can I view all items posted by a User? Can I save that user so I can see their other ads in the future?
  • Yes and yes. When you click that user’s Profile Pic or User Name and then click the “See more” link, you will see all ads that user has posted. And, when viewing an ad by a particular user, there is an option to “Save This Seller”. If click “Save This Seller”, it will cause thatuser to appear under “Saved Sellers” on the “My Account” page. When viewing “Saved Sellers”, you also have the ability to include ads by that seller when you are viewing “My Feed”.
If you ever want to remove a user as a “Saved Seller”, you can do that a few different ways. One way is you can easily manage which sellers you have saved on the “Saved Sellers” page under “My Account”. Another way is you can click on “Remove Saved Seller” when you are viewing ads that are posted by a seller you currently have saved.
  • Can I save a search so I can use it again in the future?
  • Yes. After submitting your search, you will see an option under the Search text box to “Save Search”. You will then have an option to save your search as a “New Search” or you can overwrite an existing search. If you already have your current search saved, you will instead see “Remove Saved Search” under the Search text box.
At the top-right of the screen, you will see a link for “Saved Searches”. On this page, you can see all your previously saved searches. Also on this page, you have the options to “Show Feed”, “Show Results” or you may remove a saved search.
  • What is a “feed”?
  • When showing “My Feed”, you will see ads by all saved sellers that you have set to “Include in Your Feed”. And, when viewing “Saved Searches”, you have the option to “Show Feed”. Both of these feeds will display real-time results and automatically loads new ads to the page without refreshing. While viewing “My Feed”, each time a saved seller posts a new ad, it will automatically load on your page. When selecting “Show Feed” for a saved search, each time an ad is posted that matches your search criteria, it will also automatically load on your page. Ads will appear in the order of “Date Created” with the newest ads appearing at the top. As new ads are created that you select to display in your feed, they will be inserted at the top of the page and will appear as a “New Listing”.
